Pound Paws hosted their annual Double Bay Dog Day in Guilfoyle Park, Double Bay. This event was organized as a measure help raise awareness about the importance of choosing to adopt instead of shop when it comes to getting your next pet, which involved collaborating with a series of different rescue groups in NSW, each providing pets available for adoption on the day. Pound Paws is a registered charity based in Australia and is focused on not only rehoming & raising awareness about pet adoption, but assisting Australian pounds & rescue centres by providing them with free videography & photography, then listing them on their Rescue Directory on their website, to help promote them to the Australian public. Pound Paws
Facebook, Instagram and YouTube have been key drivers for Pound Paws. However, with the launch of the new website – they are now able to provide a better link for new pet owners, by not only providing an online rescue directory but an online search engine for potential owners to search for pets by breed, age, lifestyle or size.
Pound Paws provides its services to potential pet owners and pounds for no charge. It is supported by volunteers, and sponsors and donations help fund its operations.
In partnership with the Double Bay Chamber of Commerce, Pound Paws was able to secure an annual spot in Double Bay to host the event. Our Gold Sponsor, Farmers Market Pet Food allowed us to make this years event bigger & better! This year had a variety of different stalls, ranging from rescue groups (RSPCA NSW, Greyhound Rescue, Maggies Rescue & Saving Staffies) as well as some local pet business stalls ranging from; Organic Markets Pet Food (Sponsor of the Event), Furtographer (Pet photographer), Harriott & Hound (Pet Perfume), Sweet Naked (Vegan Desserts), Brick Lane (Double Bay Food Business), Royal Oak (Sausage sizzle), Balanced Dog (Dog Massages), UW Dogs (Dog Grooming Products), Animal Talk (Animal Communicator), Eccentric Paws (Dog Costumes) & Darbys Bakery & Deli. The day consisted of a variety of fun activities ranging from; dog competitions – prizes for Best Dog Trick and Best Dog Costume. Each division brought forward lots of creative entries, ranging from; dogs riding on skateboards to even dogs dressed up as their favorite emergency services. Dogs were loving all of the attention & doggie treats. There was lots of amazing prizes to be won – with the winner of each title receiving a doggie hamper, which included; A Therapeutic Dog Massage, UW Grooming Kit, Woof Magazine Subscription & Pod Tracker (to GPS Device which helps owners track where their pets are). The dogs were judged by a celeb panel including; Dr Katrina Warren (Celebrity Vet), Robbie Farah (NRL Star), Dr Geoff Golovksy ( Celeb & Local Double Bay Vet), StyleGuy.TV team & Deb Carr from Sydney Chic. Entertainment was on-going & full of laughs, as the doggies had no problem with hogging the lime light. Our MC Nick Gulliver loved sharing the stage with the doggies. We had Ginie a professional dog trainer come up on stage and show us some amazing doggie tricks & Dana from Animal Talk did a live session where she selected a dog from the crowd and communicated / found out what the doggie was thinking. A great informative session for dog owners which had some hilarious results.
Stall Holders were encouraged to get creative with the doggie guests on the day & boy, did they have fun with it. One of the stall holders, Harriot & Hound themed their marquee as a ‘Chanel New York Store,’ with white faux leather coaches for the dogs to sit on & treated them to a personalized one on one perfume sampling, whilst the doggies got a happy snap next to the chandelier. Another fun stall was Furtographer, dogs could stop by and get a ‘Doggie Actor Head Shot’ at this stall, photos looked very professional & super cute. Balanced Dogs were providing canine Myofunctional Therapy (natural massage treatment that uses touch to maintain and improve physical and emotional wellbeing of the dog), this stall was themed as a Balinese temple, a great spot to relax! These are just a few of the fun stalls involved on the day which helped make the event such a success. The fun continued at The Sheaf, for the Official Double Bay Dog Day After Party, where doggie guests were snapped by the ‘Paw-parazzi’ on the red carpet for their social pics against the media wall, then treated to a doggie treat & party bag. Owners were spoilt with a Doggie Daiquiri. A great way to wrap up a fun day! We are so appreciative of all the local pet businesses which got involved & helped us create such a fun event. Thank you for helping us raise awareness for pets available for adoption. It was such a special day as not only did we assist with re-homing dogs from Saving Staffies & Maggies Rescue and receive potential adoption & foster interest for Greyhound Rescue & RSPCA NSW's dogs but our very own dog Hansel got to dress up as a banana! We are already reviewing interest applications for next years event & we encourage dog lovers to get in contact with us. We are always looking at fun new ways to help raise awareness about pet adoption, especially in a suburb like Double Bay where a lot of designer breeds seem to populate the dog parks.
